Having begun her career singing in working-men's clubs in the 1950s, Lynne Perrie became one of Britain's most respected female cabaret acts before transitioning into a successful acting career.
Throughout the 1960s, she performed across the British Isles as a singer and comedienne, and on stages the world over. She supported the Beatles and the Rolling Stones among many others, and sang on TV's Stars and Garters show.
She made her acting debut in Ken Loach's classic film Kes, which led to roles in a string of hit TV shows including Crown Court, the BBC Play for Today, Leeds United! and the comedy series Queenie's Castle, working opposite Diana Dors.
Lynne became a household name as the legendary battleaxe Ivy Tilsley in Coronation Street, a role she played with relish from 1971 to 1994.
After leaving the show, she published her memoirs, became a regular on the chat show circuit and returned to the stage.
Lynne passed away in 2006, aged 74, with her husband, Derrick, and son, Stephen by her side.
